I am now offering private one-on-one songwriting sessions from my home in East Nashville, Tennessee. I have written songs for Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Trisha Yearwood, Bette Midler, Stevie Nicks, Mary Black, Jennifer Warnes, and others. I wrote The Woman Before Me, a #1 hit for Yearwood’s debut album, which won a BMI award, and my songs appeared on eight more of her albums. I also penned the title track of Johnny Cash’s 1997 Grammy winning album, Unchained.
My songs have been featured on TV shows such as Nurse Jackie, Lie To Me and Army Wives. I’ve won a BMI songwriting award for “Woman Before Me“, and an IAMA award for Best Americana Song for Quiet Girl. I’ve been privileged to open shows for many of my friends, including Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, Joe Cocker, Richard Thompson, and Chris Hillman. I’ve performed with many gifted players and have toured Europe under my own name five times.
I’ve facilitated songwriting workshops and lectures at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, Sisters Folk Festival in Oregon, West Coast Songwriters in CA, Ulster University in Ireland, and my own home. I can help you with your songwriting, even in as little as one session. Sessions are $75 per hour, either in person, or you can hook up with me from anywhere in the world. Just message me on Facebook and arrange a time with me to sit with you and work on your song. You can send me an mp3 of it ahead of time, or just play it for me live on your end, and we’ll talk about it. I so enjoy doing this work, and bringing out the best in your music.
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE IN PERSON
*Bring your instrument and a copy of the lyrics, unless you play piano, in which case, I have a 1926 Mason & Hamlin parlor grand here. Each session is a private, one-on-one session with me. You may record and/or video the session for your personal reference, provided that you do not post it online.
If you’d like to book a session, contact me by email, or just private message me on facebook:
Thanks in advance. Hope to work with you soon. JJ
